What else would bring sheer joy to a regular teen girl other than Justin Bieber? Some type of blank canvas to decorate, to polish and glitter, and otherwise adorn - naturally it has to be fingernails! Yes, I'm sure someone out there would like to decorate The Biebs too... and incase you haven't heard, I have it on VERY good authority, the future Mrs. Justin Bieber (help me!) has informed me that her wishlist counterpart is coming out with his own line of polish, by O.P.I., of course...
Oh, great', I hear you say, 'another line of polish, just what I need'. Or you could be saying 'my child already has a gazillion bottles of polish, in pink, lime green, black, holographic, scented, chrome plated, electroplated, enamel glittered, 25th century futuristic, and silver. I don't NEED anymore...' But we're not really talking polishing fingernails as much as simple nail transfers..I realize same could be said for nail transfers, you have enough, right?
But, do you have this? Something so simple it will knock your socks right off your dang feet! Its FREE and enough to keep your child still for 5 minutes without asking you for more polish colors, or talking about... Justin. We're talking Newspaper Nail Transfers!!
I caught my child engaging in this activity at the kitchen table a couple of days ago.. I noticed mainly because of the eerie silence, and heavily focused appearance. Naturally, I enquired. Immediately I thought it was probably one of the most brilliant things I have seen, mostly due to the aforementioned, lack of squabbles, happy sibling involvement and use of time not involving the tv. Not to mention use of papers and creative time, discovering something partially useful. And free.
This is what you need.
- Nail polish
- clear top coat polish
- newspaper or those book club papers your child brings home from school
- rubbing alcohol
Doesn't matter whether its pictures or text, but the smaller the object the better, since large pics will just add a block of color to the nails, rather than pattern.
How to
- Polish nails in whatever color of polish
- when dry, dip fingernail of choice in rubbing alcohol just for a second or two
- take selected newspaper/print and apply directly to nail surface. Hold for about 5 or 6 seconds. Peel off
- let dry
- apply clear top coat.
You're done! fantastic huh!
